The International Football Federation has announced the postponement of the qualifying games to the 2022 World Cup, initially scheduled for this year, and which will take place next year, in 2021. Thus, the Mambas have no game scheduled for this year.
The announcement of the change of qualifying matches to the Qatar World Cup in 2022 was made by FIFA and communicated by the African Football Confederation to national associations.
With two games initially scheduled for this year, namely the 1st and 2nd rounds, namely for October and November, FIFA has just placed both rounds in the same week, from May 31 to June 8, 2021, passing the double round of the middle, ie the 3rd and 4th, which would be in March 2021, for August 30 to September 7 of next year.
The last two qualifying rounds at the Qatar World Cup, initially scheduled for August and September 2021, with the alteration of the calendar, moved to the week of 4 to 12 October 2021.
CAF recently postponed the qualifying games to the Cameroon CAN, whose final phase went from 2021 to 2022. CAF did not advance new dates, when there were still four games to play in the group stage.
It is worth saying that the Mambas do not have any game scheduled for this year, either from the qualification to the World Cup 2022 and the CAN, also from the same year, and will be able to play ten games in 2021, being fourth of the qualifying group stage to the CAN Cameroon and six other qualifying games for the Qatar World Cup.
It is recalled that for the qualification to the World Cup of 2022 the Mambas are in the same group with Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Malawi, while for the CAN 2022 they dispute the competition with Cameroon, Rwanda and Cape Verde.
For the qualification for the 2022 World Cup only the first place in each of the ten groups in the first qualifying round goes on. After the selection of the first 10 classified in each group, a draw will be held to play a play-off, two hands, to qualify only five teams that will represent the African continent in the 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar.
